U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen will spend most of Thursday on Whidbey Island, with stops in Oak Harbor and Coupeville.

The congressman will first host a “Conversation with Veterans” in Oak Harbor at American Legion Post 129 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

“This is one of five events he’s doing with veterans in the month of August,” spokesperson Amanda Mahnke said.

He plans to update local veterans about his work in Congress on their behalf and to hear from veterans about the issues important to them, Mahnke added.

Larsen will be joined by local experts on veterans’ health care, employment and benefits who will help answer questions. The American Legion Post is located at 690 SE Barrington Dr. and the event is open to the public.

At 1 p.m., Larsen will travel to Coupeville and take a tour of the renovated Jacob Ebey House. He will also be updated on the ongoing projects of the Ebey Reserve from Ebey’s Reserve Manager Mark Preiss.

“The focus will be on local agriculture,” Mahnke said.

They will be joined by Karen Bishop of the Whidbey Conservation District and David Bauermister of the Northwest Agriculture Business Center.

Thursday evening, Larsen will participate in a healthcare reform forum hosted by the Whidbey Island League of Women Voters, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Coupeville Recreation Hall, 901 NW Alexander St.
