A convicted sex offender living in a shed on a Clinton property is accused of stabbing a man who made a snide remark on Easter, according to court documents.

Leman W. Booher, 24, appeared in Island County Superior Court Monday. Judge Christon Skinner found probable cause existed to believe he committed the crime of assault in the second degree.

Deputy Prosecutor Michael Safstrom asked that Booher be held on $25,000 bail, noting Booher’s criminal history.

He said Booher had been convicted of child sexual assault in a federal case and had been sent back to prison after violating the terms of probation in that case.

In addition, Safstrom said, Booher has a felony criminal record in Island County that includes a case in which he entered a girl’s trailer without permission and assaulted her.

Booher’s attorney asked that he be released on his recognizance, but Skinner agreed with the prosecution and set bail accordingly.

In the current case, the alleged victim lived in a trailer in Clinton while Booher was living in a nearby shed. The 23-year-old victim told deputies that he was trying to be funny on April 4 and asked Booher if he had “run out of meth or something,” according to a report by a deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

Booher got angry and told the man he was “coming over there.” The man went inside to grab a PVC pipe for protection and went back out to find Booher was on his porch.

The man said Booher lunged at him and a brief struggle ensued, during which Booher cut him on the arm and on one hand, the report states.

The man was transported to the hospital, where his injuries were stitched, the report states.
