Newly elected Coupeville Town Councilwoman Jackie Henderson, along with council incumbents Molly Hughes and Bob Clay, joined by Mayor Nancy Conard, were sworn in for their new terms during this month’s council meeting.

Conard, who is starting her fifth four-year term, and the three council members ran uncontested for their seats during November’s election.

Henderson replaces Ann Dannhauer, who decided not to seek re-election.

The new council quickly went to work and named people to various committees. Ron Van Dyk was appointed to the Historic Advisory Committee, which is a joint body between the town, Island County and Ebey’s Landing National Historic Reserve. Van Dyk has previously served on both Coupeville’s Design Review Board and Island County’s Historic Advisory Committee.

Mayor Conard said in a memo that Van Dyk owns a historic home and his longtime residency and familiarity with the history of the area and the preservation of Ebey’s Reserve will provide a sense of continuity to the new commission.

In addition, the council named Ricardo Reyes to the Planning Commission. Reyes, a former building inspector in Detroit who relocated to Coupeville, recently applied for a vacancy on the town council. That vacancy was filled by Larry Cort.

Dannhauer will still remain a part of town affairs. The council named her to a vacancy on the town’s Parks and Recreation Commission.
