In an unusual step, Island County commissioners Tuesday withdrew the momentous Nov. 3 adoption of the county’s reworked Shoreline Master Program and scheduled a public hearing on a tiny section of the new law that has not received one.
The county’s legal counsel previously said no such hearing was required, the commissioners noted, expressing frustration at the mistake.
The hearing, pertaining only to small changes in shoreline-stabilization provisions, is set for 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 1 NE 6th St., Coupeville.
The Shoreline Master Program governs development and permitted activities along its 207 linear miles of seashore and lakefront.
