Coupeville athletes receive all-league honors

Coupeville was well represented on the all-Olympic League teams this spring.

In soccer, senior Abraham Leyva and sophomore William Nelson repeated as first-team choices. Levya was second-team All-Cascade Conference as a sophomore.

Four softball players earned first-team honors: sophomore pitcher Katrina McGranahan, sophomore third baseman Lauren Rose, sophomore outfielder Hope Lodell and freshman designated player Veronica Crownover. McGranahan and Rose were first team last spring as well.

Junior Valen Trujillo was the conference singles tennis champion, and sophomores Payton Aparicio and Sage Renninger were doubles champions.

Champions in girls track were senior Makana Stone (400, 800), senior Sylvia Hurlburt (200), junior Skyler Lawrence (shot put), freshman Lindsey Roberts (long jump) and the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams of junior Lauren Grove, Roberts, Hurlburt and Stone.

Boys earning league titles were senior Dalton Martin (discus, shot put), freshman Danny Conlisk (800), senior Jordan Ford (pole vault) and junior Mitchell Carroll (triple jump).

Senior Cole Payne was honored as the Most Valuable Player in baseball.

The Smith brothers, senior CJ and sophomore Hunter, were chosen first-team pitchers, and freshman Matt Hilborn was listed among the first-team infielders.

Junior first baseman Kory Score was named to the second team.

Payne and CJ Smith were also first team in 2015.

In addition to the player awards, first-year head coach Marc Aparicio and his assistants were selected as Staff of the Year.
