The conclusion of a festive Memorial Day weekend brought some consternation for a couple of Coupeville businesses.

Ebey Bowl and the Pizza Factory were both victims of break-ins Monday night.

Ebey Bowl, located just outside town limits near Coupeville Middle and High School, was burglarized just before 9 p.m. Owner Matt Iverson said someone cut the phone lines and jimmied the back door.

The burglar stole the alley’s beer, liquor, candy, laptop computer and  kitchen fan, along with several hundred dollars in cash.

Iverson said the bowling alley had video surveillance of the person, which he shared with the Island County Sheriff’s office, which is investigating the incidents.

Deputies from the Island County Sheriff’s Office couldn’t be reached for comment.

Monday evening, officers from the Coupeville Town Marshal’s Office  responded to a report of an attempted break in at the Pizza Factory, which is located near the intersection of Highway 20 and Main Street.

Town Marshal Lance Davenport said the store’s alarm sounded and officers found evidence of a break-in; however, it isn’t known yet whether anything was stolen.

He said the Pizza Factory break-in was likely related to the burglary at Ebey Bowl.

The Memorial Day break-ins are a reminder of a string of burglaries that took place in the summer of 2011. Back then, six businesses throughout Coupeville were burglarized in one night. Davenport said arrests haven’t been made and he doesn’t know if they’re related to Monday’s incidents.

Davenport sent out information to business leaders to encourage people to review security at their businesses.

As for Iverson, he is busy repairing damage done by the burglary and is hoping for an arrest. He also complimented the efforts of law enforcement.
