The fact that the Coupeville High School soccer team dominated its match with Sequim didn’t show up on the scoreboard as the Central Whidbey club fell 3-1 at Mickey Clark Field Thursday, Sept. 15.

Coupeville coach Troy Cowan labeled the match “a comedy of errors,” adding, “unfortunately we were on the wrong side of the errors.”

Outside of the goals, Coupeville fired seven shots to Sequim’s one, according to Cowan.

“(We) controlled most of the match with terrific possession, and our defensive front was awesome,” he said.

Cowan lauded the “outstanding” play of Sage Renninger.

“Her game is really reaching new heights.”

Renninger’s corner kick led to Coupeville’s goal by Mia Littlejohn.

“It was a non-conference match so we will take away some very valuable lessons and apply them to our future play,” Cowan said.

That future play starts with an Olympic League match at Port Townsend (0-2) at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17.
