The Coupeville Festival Association announced the winners of the 2012 scholarships. Each year, as part of giving back to the community, CFA awards $4,000 in scholarships to the students who have shown their worth in education and volunteering to the community.
In the past, four longtime volunteers were honored by having a $1,000 scholarship named in their honor and given to the student who lives in or goes to school in the 98239 zip code. This tradition continues.
This year’s recipients were: Cassidi Rosenkrance, who earned the Del Bennett memorial scholarship; Dalton Engle, who earned the Ken Jampsa Memorial Scholarship; Zachary McCormick, who earned the Linda Lee Martens Memorial Scholarship; and James P. Ward, who earned the Mary Jo Eisenmann Memorial Scholarship.
Each of these students was presented with a letter to take to their school for next year’s tuition.
After the presentation, a celebratory cake and mingle continued. The students got to meet the volunteers, and the volunteers got to see where their hard earned proceeds went. It was a well received reception, and the students went home knowing that the CFA was proud to be giving them a monetary boost.
CFA President Mike Dessert presented the letters and had each student tell a little about themselves and what their plans are for the future. These students are going into computer science, kinesiology, environmental development and veterinary science.
