The Coupeville High School volleyball team did something no other conference school has been able to do in the young history of the Olympic League 1A division — beat Klahowya.

The Wolves, playing on the road, came from behind to win 11-25, 25-23, 20-25, 26-24, 15-9.

The Eagles were 6-0 in conference play in 2014 and 2015 and entered Tuesday’s match at 2-0 for 2016.

The three 1A teams will play each other three times instead of two this fall for nine league matches.

Coupeville is now 2-0 in the Olympic League and will complete the first round when it hosts Port Townsend (0-2, 1-6) at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29.

Not only did Coupeville beat the Eagles in Klahowya, but  it overcame a drubbing in the first set.

“I am so proud of the way we fought and found it within ourselves to recover after a rough first set,” coach Cory Whitmore said.

“We made plays when we needed to, both defensively and offensively. Our poise looked better in close situations and that calm demeanor helped us to come away with a win.”

Hope Lodell paced the Wolves with nine kills, seven aces and 15 digs. Mikayla Elfrank had 11 kills, Katrina McGranahan five aces, Valen Trujillo 24 digs, Ashley Menges 15 assists and Lauren Rose 14 assists.
