February is fast approaching, and for those of us in the Coupeville School District, it is school levy time again. The Maintenance and Operations Levy supports many aspects of a Coupeville student’s education for which Washington State funding does not provide. This levy will only replace the current levy which expires in 2002. Coupeville has a long-standing tradition of supporting the educational needs of students in our community, and I urge you to vote “yes” in February.

The levy supports many services for our schools. Among them are: counseling and library staff, salaries for the volunteer coordinator, the Learning Partner Program which provides tutoring assistance to students after school hours, a district-wide technology plan, funding for staff training, as well as textbooks and other necessary equipment and support for our classified employees.

If you’ve ever come to Community Night for History Day and seen the wonderful projects Coupeville students and their advisors have put countless hours into, or attended a sports event at Coupeville Middle or High School and seen our amazing athletes in action, then remember that the funds for these programs are made possible through the Maintenance and Operations Levy.

Passing the levy means you will continue to support our school district in providing the students of our community with an excellent education. Our children are the future of our community, nation and the world. We have a responsibility to provide the best educational opportunities that are available to them. Vote yes!
