The Coupeville Lions Club welcomed new members, Mike Champion and Scott Fisher.

Dur Roberson of the Oak Harbor Lions Club, who served as International Director of Lions Clubs International from 2004 to 2006, inducted them.

Champion, a senior program manager at Microsoft, and his wife Karen live in Woodinville. They have property in Coupeville and enjoy weekends and summers on the island, with hope to settle here permanently in the near future.

Champion joined the Lions Club because of his love for Coupeville.

“We feel Coupeville has more of a sense of community than our suburb of Seattle and our hearts are here,” he said.

Fisher is the newest and second youngest member of the Lions. He was born and raised in Coupeville and graduated in 2003 from CHS where he played football and basketball and was on the National Honor Society.

Fisher earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and environmental studies at Western Washington University and his Certification in Professional Accounting from the University of Washington. He recently passed his CPA exam and is working to become licensed. He currently works for the Best Western Hotel in Oak Harbor.

Fisher said he joined the Lions because, “I like volunteering and wanted more involvement in my community.”

Roberson awarded the 30-year pin to Rod Barnes, who has served with the Coupeville Lions and the international organization in many leadership positions during his tenure with the Lions.

John Kohlman was also honored for his past service as the zone chairman. He received the Efficiency Award and was awarded Zone Chairman of the Year at the Lions Conference in Yakima earlier this month.
