A 31-year-old Coupeville man is facing multiple felony charges in connection with what a deputy characterized as a “heinous assault” on two women July 17.

Prosecutors charged Shelby Quinn, Jr. in Island County Superior Court July 22 with two counts of assault in the second degree, unlawful imprisonment and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

If convicted of the charges, Quinn could face up to two years and five months in prison under the standard sentencing range.

Quinn was released from jail after posting a $50,000 bond July 29.

Quinn’s girlfriend and her mother reported that Quinn assaulted both of them at his home on Bobwhite Lane after telling her to remove her possessions from the house.

The younger woman reported that he threw her over the bed, punched her repeatedly in the face, choked her and threatened to kill her, according to the deputy’s report on the incident. She fought back and got away, but he caught her, threw her to the ground and choked her again, the report states.

The woman said she thought he was going to kill her and tried to get away by biting his finger “almost completely off,” the deputy wrote.

The woman’s mother came into the room and tried to get Quinn to stop assaulting her daughter. She said Quinn also punched her and threw her around the room, the report states.

The two women eventually escaped and drove away.

The deputies were unable to initially find Quinn.

The deputy noted that both women were in pain and had “obvious signs of multiple injuries.” They were treated at the hospital.
