A Coupeville man is facing more than eight years in prison for possessing more than 3,000 child pornography images and videos on his home computer, some of which included victims as young as 10 months old, court documents indicate.

James O’Hara Saxman, 62, was charged in Island County Superior Court Dec. 28 with four counts of possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in the first degree.

If found guilty, Saxman could spend 77 to 102 months in prison under the standard sentencing range.

Federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security went to Saxman’s house last June after securing a search warrant from U.S. District Court.

Saxman was at home at the time and a laptop computer was found “actively downloading numerous files with names indicative of child pornography,” wrote Justin Sebens, a special agent with homeland security, in a certification of determination of probable cause.

Saxman confirmed that the computer belonged to him and that he was the only person who knew its password, the agent’s report states.

Saxman also allegedly conceded that he’d “downloaded some stuff that’s probably not cool to be downloaded,” Sebens wrote.

Saxman told agents that they should be hassling the people who made the child porn instead of him and he was a victim because he got “sucked into it,” Sebens wrote.

Sebens was investigating the sharing of child pornography last year when he discovered three known child porn video files that were searched and uploaded; he later tracked them to Saxman’s IP address, a unique internet signature assigned to individual computers.

The three videos contain disturbing scenes involving two male babies and a female toddler, Sebens wrote in his report.

A total of 3,118 child pornographic images and videos were seized from Saxman’s computer, the report states.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was able to identify just 63 of the victims.
