Coupeville senior baseball player Ben Etzell was selected Sunday, June 8, to play in the All-State Baseball Series in Yakima Saturday and Sunday June 14 and 15.

Etzell was the Most Valuable Player in his feeder game last week and was nominated for the state games.

The top seniors in the state, regardless of school classification, are divided among four 18-player teams for the all-state series.

Etzell will play on team Adams, which will be coached by Todd Gibson of Ellensburg and Bill Walker of Naches Valley, and will play team Baker at noon Saturday. Teams St. Helens and Rainier play later that afternoon.

The two losing teams meet at 10:35 a.m. Sunday, and the two winners square off at 1:35 p.m.

Etzell is slated to play third base and pitch for team Baker.

“I am beyond excited having been selected,” Etzell said.

Coupeville coach Willie Smith said, “Great honor for Ben and a great way to cap off his high school career.”
