Dress up in your ghoulish best and support a safe graduation celebration for Coupeville High School’s 2011 graduates.

In an effort to raise $20,000 for a grad night party, this year’s senior parent committee members are hosting a Halloween-themed dance on Saturday, Oct. 30, and the whole community is invited. The committee hopes the “Monster Mash” will bring in between $1,500 and $2,000. The parents, along with some senior volunteers, have planned a wide variety of activities hoping to draw people of all ages to the event.

“It’s just going to be awesome,” senior Christian Chambers said.

Chambers is putting together a haunted hallway with his friends seniors Soureya Hetzel and Carly Kessler.

The dance will be held in the high school commons, and attendees can choose to enter via the stairs or can pass through the hall which will be filled with freaky thrills and live scarers.

“You have the option to be scared or have fun or do both,” Hetzel said.

The dance starts shortly after the fall carnival at Coupeville Elementary School, which lasts from 5 to 8 p.m., so the parents are hoping its participants will be encouraged to head to the high school afterward.

Monster Mash activities include a costume contest with cash prizes, a Frankenstein photo booth, face painting, refreshments and a dance contest.

Tickets can be purchased from Coupeville seniors, KaPaw’s Iskreme, Miriam’s Espresso, People’s Bank, MJC Copy Center or at the door. Pre-sale tickets are $10. On Saturday, tickets will cost $15 with a packaged family offer available for $50. The event will be held from 8 to 11 p.m.

The senior parent committee formed this summer and has been meeting once a month to plan fundraisers. So far they’ve done a car wash and have begun raking in concession stand sales. Additionally, the group has raised about $1,300 from the infamous traveling toilet. They plan to put out a calendar by Christmas that features photos of all of the seniors and will hold a Mr. Coupeville High School faux beauty pageant in February. Additionally, this spring, the seniors are hoping to sponsor a game of cowpie Bingo. Each Bingo player will “purchase” a portion of a grazing field, and when the cows are released, whoever’s portion receives the first cowpie will win a percentage of the Bingo proceeds. During the game, a barbecue and other activities will take place.
