The Coupeville High School softball team lost 12-1 in five innings at Sequim Wednesday, March 18.
Although the Wolves lost, coach Deanna Rafferty saw growth by her team: “Overall, our batting improved immensely from our first game, but there is still room for improvement.”
The Wolves, who struck out 18 times in the opener with Sultan, cut the number to five at Sequim.
Coupeville tallied its run in the fourth inning. Hope Lodell singled and scored on a double by Hailey Hammer.
McKayla Bailey added a double for Coupeville. She also returned to the circle for an inning, her first pitching appearance since shoulder surgery, sending Sequim down in order.
Starting pitcher Katrina McGranahan threw “solid strikes,” Rafferty said, against Sequim’s “hard hitting” lineup.
The Wolves (0-2) go to Langley to take on South Whidbey (1-0) at 4 p.m. Friday, March 20.
