A Coupeville woman was detained by police Sunday after she stopped traffic outside Whidbey General Hospital and was yelling at drivers.

Coupeville Marshal Rick Norrie said the woman, 50, was a patient at the hospital and for some reason was unusually angry.

He said the woman is known to the police department.

The woman reportedly started kicking stuff around first in the parking lot and then got into traffic on South Main Street and was stopping cars and yelling at the drivers.

There were also reports she laid down in the street.

She was angry, aggressive, Norrie said. “I’m not sure what the cause was.”

The woman was arrested for disorderly conduct and later released on her own recognizance.
