Coupeville’s Aaron Curtin and Sebastian Davis finished 1-2 in singles in the Olympic League 1A tennis tournament Monday, Oct. 27, at Chimacum High School.

“It was a great tourney,” Coupeville coach Ken Stange said. “We exceeded expectations in singles, and we met expectations in doubles.”

The Coupeville doubles team of Connor McCormick and Loren Nelson finished fourth and will join Curtin and Davis at the district tournament.

District is set for Thursday, Oct. 30, to Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Lakewood Racket Club in south Tacoma, according to the District 3 website.

Curtin and Davis each won their first two matches to set up an all-Coupeville final in singles, which Curtin narrowly won.

Davis reached the championship match by upsetting the tournament’s top seed from Klahowya.

Kyle Bodamer also competed in the singles tournament, winning one of three matches.

In doubles, McCormick and Nelson lost a close opening match and then stormed back to win their next two to grab a district berth.

Joey Lippo and William Nelson defeated the No. 1 Chimacum doubles team before losing to the eventual champions.

Joseph Wedekind and John McClarin lost both matches.

The league tournament used prosets to eight to determine the winners instead of the normal set format, according to Stange.
