DECA going to national competition

Twelve members of the Oak Harbor High School DECA club will compete in a national competition in Nashville on April 24.

Twelve members of the Oak Harbor High School DECA club will compete in a national competition in Nashville on April 24.

The team is in need of $13,000 to pay for the cost of airline tickets, a hotel stay and registration for the competition.

Donations are tax-deductible.

DECA is the national high school and college student organization focusing on business and marketing.

The goal of the program, according to the website, is to prepare students to become successful leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Currently, 70 students at OHHS are involved in DECA.

Participants take part in operating the student store, preparing for state and national competitions, attending leadership conferences and activities throughout the year and coordinating community service projects and scholarship opportunities.
