The commissioners from Island, Snohomish and Skagit counties will meet Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 5:30 p.m. in Everett to consider three applicants to replace 10th District Rep. Chris Strow, who resigned in December.

Last Thursday in Mount Vernon, the Republican precinct officers from the three counties met in Mount Vernon and decided by a 27 to 1 margin that Norma Smith, a Clinton resident and former aide to the late Congressman Jack Metcalf, was their preferred choice for the position. Since Strow is Republican, a Republican must be chosen to fill his seat.

Despite the overwhelming endorsement of Smith from the party, the county commissioners could decide to appoint one of the other candidates. They include Joel Edmonds, a Stanwood resident who owns a construction company; and Ed Drum, a retired Navy flight surgeon who lives in Oak Harbor.

Here are the commissioners from each county:

Island: Mac McDowell, John Dean, Phil Bakke.

Skagit: Don Munks, Ken Dahlstedt, Sharon Dillon.

Snohomish: Dave Somers, Dave Gossett, Mike Cooper, Brian Sullivan, John Koster.

Tuesday’s meeting will be held on the eighth floor of the Robert Drewel Building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., in Everett.
