Oak Harbor will have a public hearing this September to annex 37 acres south of the city.

Councilman Jim Campbell said the company Landed Gentry would like to use the property to build housing. The land is located on the southwest corner of SW 24th Avenue and Highway 20.

Initially, the company wanted to annex about 77 acres, but the area was reduced.

The Oak Harbor City Council approved the original petition.

In a letter to the city, Landed Gentry president Brian Gentry said, “However, recent conversations with some property owners have indicated a declining interest in proceedings with annexation at this time.”

Campbell said it may have to do with the current economy.

Landed Gentry is now re-submitting the application with fewer properties. The land is located near Eagle Vista Street, the future site of the city’s affordable housing project.

A public hearing for the proposed annexation will be held Sept. 1.
