The start and finish to the season were rugged, but the middle was historic.

The Coupeville High School baseball team was knocked out of the district tournament with a 6-1 loss to Seattle Christian Thursday, May 12, at Charles Wright Academy.

The Wolves (10-12) began the season by losing five of their first seven games; they finished it by losing four straight. Sandwiched in the middle were seven consecutive conference wins resulting in Coupeville’s first league pennant in 25 years.

Seattle Christian (12-9) scored all of its runs over the first three innings. The Wolves, on the other hand, failed to produce a baserunner during that span against Warrior pitcher Alex Evenson.

In fact, Evenson took a perfect game into the sixth inning.

Clay Reilly finally broke through with a leadoff single in the top of the sixth. He was caught stealing, but consecutive hits by Ethan Marx, Matt Hilborn and Hunter Smith produced a run.

Kory Score recorded the only other Coupeville hit, a seventh-inning single.

The Warriors started the game with three straight hits to pick up two runs in the first inning. Seattle Christian tacked on three more runs in the second, all with two outs, with the help of a walk and two hits.

Three hits led to the final run in the third.

“Great season,” first-year head coach Marc Aparicio said. “(I) wish it would have lasted a bit longer.”
