Next Tuesday, Nov. 3, is the last day for voters to mail-in their ballots for the general election.

Several local contested positions are up for grabs this cycle including a seat on the Oak Harbor City Council, Coupeville Town Council and the North Whidbey Fire and Rescue board.

Voters will also have a chance to approve or reject big ballot items R-71, the state’s domestic partner law, and Tim Eyman’s tax cutting proposal I-1033. Also, Sno-Isle Regional Library is asking for a property tax increase to maintain current services.

The Island County Auditor’s Office reported Friday it sent out 47,400 ballots with a return so far of about 15,000.

Don’t forget to carefully read your ballot and cast your vote. Ballots must be postmarked, sealed, stamped and mailed no later than 8 p.m. Nov. 3, which is when the polls officially close.

Ballots may also be dropped off at the Island County Elections Office between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. The office is located at 400 N. Main St. in Coupeville.
