A 25-year-old Oak Harbor man could face time in prison if convicted of charges of drug possession, vandalism and court order violations, according to court documents.

Christopher Nielsen pleaded not guilty in Island County Superior Court May 17 to charges of possession of methamphetamine, second-degree malicious mischief, and two counts of violation of a court order. The malicious mischief and court order violation charges are domestic violence-related.

According to a report by Oak Harbor Police Detective Ron Hofkamp, an Oak Harbor woman alleged that her ex-boyfriend, Nielsen, had spray-painted “LAST CHANC” and “LIAR” on her car. She said he admitted doing it because he was upset that she told him he couldn’t see their son until he was off drugs, the report states.

Hofkamp wrote that the woman obtained a restraining order against Nielsen. But she claimed Nielsen violated the order by calling and texting her, the report states.

A police officer arrested Nielsen and found methamphetamine on him, court documents indicate.

Island County Superior Court Judge Vickie Churchill set Nielsen’s bail at $50,000 on May 5.

If Nielsen is convicted of the charges, he could face up to two years and five months in prison under the standard sentencing range. His criminal history increases the sentencing range, according to court documents.
