Thanksgiving is a time to take stock of our blessings. In the Whidbey News-Times newsroom, here’s some of the things our staff is grateful for:
Editor & Publisher Keven R. Graves: I’m grateful my son Liam has a job and is figuring life out. I’m grateful that I live close to my parents and the rest of my family. I am thankful for those little Vitamin D capsules as we head into the long winter’s nights.
Co-editor Jessie Stensland: I’m thankful that gays in the state have the right to carry guns and smoke pot at their own weddings.
Co-editor Megan Hansen: I’m grateful for the health and happiness of my friends and family. Over the last year, I’ve watched several of the people in my life go through various medical situations, and I’m grateful they all appear to be pulling through and are on a downhill slope.
Sports editor Jim Waller: I am thankful for our first grandchild. However, it does push me one more spot lower on the “relevancy pole” in our family.
Reporter Ron Newberry: I am thankful for the many great things I’ve discovered later in life, including my wife, this island and the friends we’ve found here. I’m also eternally grateful and proud of my two daughters, who are thriving in college at Washington State. Go Cougs!
Reporter Janis Reid: I’m thankful that that guy finally met their mother. I’m daily appreciative that Jack White still rocks, and that the whole Nickleback thing appears to be over. I’m especially thankful that John Boehner stopped crying in public.
Reporter Michelle Beahm: I’m thankful that there will be 30 superhero movies in the next six years, including, finally, a female-led Marvel movie. I’m also thankful that I’m not the only one upset about the lack of a “Black Widow” movie. Seriously, Marvel. Get it together.
Newsroom clerk Kelly Pantoleon: SiriusXM Radio. I have three months free because I got a new car. I have, like, five favorite stations that are really nice. One of them is called Watercolors. It’s very calming and jazzy. I recommend it to people who buy a new car that comes with three free months of SiriusXM Radio.
