Endless Summer meets leaky fate

Workers at the Oak Harbor marina spent most of Wednesday raising a boat that had sunk.

Harbormaster Mack Funk said the 30-foot power boat, named Endless Summer, went under water while moored at the facility.

“We aren’t sure of the exact cause of it,” Funk said of the event.

Divers from North Sound Diving were able to attach flotation buoys to the boat and raise it and workers pumped water out the boat’s interior. The Endless summer is currently on land in the marina’s boatyard. Workers finished the recovery and cleanup around 3 p.m.

The Endless Summer had been locked to the dock at the marina because its owner hadn’t paid its moorage fees, Funk said. The owner had locked the entry to the boat and workers had to break a window in order to start pumping out the water.

He said staff was close to auctioning the boat and will continue the process of selling the Endless Summer to recoup the back moorage fees.
