A Grumman EA-6B Prowler jet will take its final flight at the end of May from Whidbey Island Naval Air Station to The Museum of Flight in Seattle.

The aircraft will be decommissioned and absorbed into the museum’s permanent collection.

The public is invited to attend a talk on the history of the EA-6B Prowler set for 2 p.m. Saturday May 30 at the Museum of Flight, 9404 E. Marginal Way S.

The Prowler will be on display all day in the museum’s parking lot.

“The Prowler will be the first electronic warfare aircraft in the museum’s collection,” said curator Dan Hagedorn in a prepared statement. “It is the missing piece that fills our story of modern military aviation.”

After 44 years in service, the Navy is retiring the Prowler jet and replacing it with new Boeing EA-18G Growlers.

The last Navy Prowler flight is scheduled for June when VAQ-134 aviators will depart NAS Whidbey during an open house.

The Prowler Sunset Celebration is planned for June 25-27 at NAS Whidbey.

Thursday and Friday events are by registration for Prowler community veterans, government and industry personnel and their families and friends.

On Saturday, the event opens to the public. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. exibits and displays will be located in Hangar 5.

A 5K runway run is also planned that day.

The Prowler Fly Away is planned for noon to 1 p.m.
