The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Eleven Detachment Northwest will conduct a demolition of ordnance discovered at the Lake Hancock training area south of Coupeville on Thursday, Aug. 19

People in the near vicinity of the Lake Hancock area may hear audible detonations and some potential ground vibration from this disposal operation. Safety precautions, including the presence of base fire fighters, will be in place to ensure operations pose no threat to people or property.

Lake Hancock was used as a practice bombing and mine laying training range from World War II until the 1970s. The Navy is currently conducting remedial munitions surface cleanup of the area. The items slated for disposal in place are expected to be inert practice rounds. However, out of an abundance of caution, Navy officials decided to dispose of them in place.
