It’s been a while since I wrote to a congressman or legislator to thank them for the continued good work. I don’t have to wait for an issue to give my opinion or an issue to grouse about to send a letter!

I’ve done my share of criticizing those in politics, but I’m praying more now as I see the difficult tasks, that wisdom and blessing may rest on them. I know that I like appreciation and prayer rather than criticism and worry. I found this verse in I Timothy 1:1,2 (KJV): “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may live a quiet and peaceable life in all goodness and honesty.”

One sentence that gives form to my prayer is from “Prose Works,” by Mary Baker Eddy: “Pray that the divine presence may still guide and bless our chief magistrate, those associated with his executive trust, and our national judiciary; give to our congress wisdom, and uphold our nation with the right hand of His righteousness.”

I’m improving on this practice of praying … joining others in the community.
