A 25-year-old Oak Harbor man gao caught using counterfeit $50 bills to buy alcohol at a downtown bar, according to police reports.
Prosecutors charged Geovanni Gabourel in Island County Superior Court with three counts of forgery and theft in the third degree.
Gabourel’s trial was recently set for June 7. He pleaded not guilty Feb. 4.
Oak Harbor Police Officer Mike Bailey wrote in an affidavit that an employee at PW Murphys on SE Pioneer Way reported that Gabourel gave him two fake $50 bills at the bar. The employee identified the bills as fake by using a marker.
According to Bailey, the bills were somewhat discolored and they both had the same serial number.
Bailey said Gabourel had a third bogus bill in his wallet.
Gabourel told the officer that he got the bills at the bank and didn’t realize they were fake, the report states.
