South Whidbey defeated the short-handed Coupeville High School soccer team 9-2 Saturday, March 19, in Langley.
“It was a tale of two halves,” Coupeville coach Kyle Nelson said.
Coupeville was missing a handful of players, including several starters, which forced a number of Wolves to play out of position, according to Nelson.
“The first half saw us making mistakes as guys were figuring out new positions and a different team look,” Nelson said. “We went down 0-6 in the first half. The second half we were able to start making some adjustments.”
After the break, the players gelled and it was a much more even contest, Nelson said.
William Nelson scored the first Coupeville goal off an assist by Abraham Leyva Elenes. Leyva Elenes then recorded his own goal with an assist from Taylor Chiles.
Coupeville (0-2) now plays four consecutive home matches beginning with Sequim (0-2) at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 22.
