The Whidbey Island Conservation District has added Ken Drecksel to its conservation staff.

Starting early December, Drecksel will be working half-time as Farm and Forest Conservation Planner.

“This is welcome news to those islanders who require assistance in preparing a farm or forest plan,” said Karen Bishop, district manager.

Drecksel grew up on a farm near Olympia and brings a lengthy history in resource conservation, most recently with Kitsap Conservation District and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

He is experienced in writing plans for small farms as well as working with landowners to implement Best Management Practices such as pasture planting, woodland and forest improvement, tree and shrub establishment, fencing, nutrient and pest management, and prescribed grazing.

“This background will be a tremendous asset to our community,” Bishop said.

The Whidbey Island Conservation District assists rural landowners, farmers, municipalities, and other partners to protect and restore the natural resources of the island. In addition, the district hosts tours, workshops, event booths, and is active in newly developing issues relating to low impact development.
