The emotional lift of Senior Day wasn’t great enough to push the Oak Harbor fastpitch team to a win as the Wildcats fell 9-1 to Everett Friday, May 7.

Oak Harbor (0-15, 1-17) finishes its season Monday at first-place Marysville-Pilchuck (14-0, 15-2).

The Wildcats said goodbye to seniors Aria Araceley, Emily Meagher and Whitney Osborn.

Osborn finished with a strong outing, pitching the final five innings and giving up just four hits and two earned runs. She ended her home career by striking out the final two Everett hitters. Osborn also had one of Oak Harbor’s three hits.

Errors were the story once again for the ‘Cats. They racked up nine miscues leading to seven unearned runs.

Coach Jessica Weikle said, “We consistently have infield errors. Our players have such little game experience that every game creates a new situation. If they get out of their comfort zone, they fall apart.”

Everett (8-6, 11-7) had two innings of three runs each that were similar in the making and devastating to Oak Harbor. Both times, early errors in the inning prolonged the Seagulls’ at bat. Had the Wildcats make the plays, the string of Everett hits later in the inning would not have happened and Oak Harbor could have escaped unscathed.

In the second inning, after an error and two outs Everett rapped a single, triple and double to get its three runs.

In the sixth, Everett’s first two hitters reached on errors. Osborn then got two outs, but then the ‘Gulls, who had only four hits off Osborn, linked three in a row, including a triple, to pick up three runs.

The Wildcats score their run in the sixth. With two outs Araceley and Osborn reached on back-to-back singles. Marissa Fakkema lifted a fly down the right field line that was dropped and Araceley scored.

In the third inning, Shawna Steele collected the only other Oak Harbor.
