I read your story, “City misses Rick, its homeless man,” and found it truly amazing that in some places people still care even for those that some might see as “undesirable.”
Oak Harbor should be proud of its citizens and that they have the privilege of living in a city where human decency abounds. Trust me, as a 13-year resident of the Miami, Fla., area this article would never have been written here. Most likely Rick would have been found robbed and shot in our city and nobody would have cared.
So I hope the people of Oak Harbor realize what they have and the quality of people around them and not take it for granted and strive to keep these rare and precious qualities of human decency. We are all in fact just a few steps from being homeless ourselves.
