Feedback: Sign thugs aim at GOP

It’s too bad you decided not to cover the story of the widespread campaign to damage and steal Bush/Cheney signs all over the island.

It’s too bad you decided not to cover the story of the widespread campaign to damage and steal Bush/Cheney signs all over the island. We need a paper that will report on what is actually going on in our community.

Lest anyone doubt that spoiled kids can damage a community, just look at the reactions of some local thugs who didn’t like the elections results coming in Nov 2. I was at the GOP office on Midway, Tuesday night when two young men came over to our parking lot screaming obscenities at us. Later that night, the large Bush/Cheney sign across the street was slashed, yet again.

Is this the kind of people this community raises? I have only been here a little while, but I don’t think this is the goal of the community. Maybe it’s just the grown-up version of the tantrums a two year old throws when not getting his way. How has our society come to this point? I think some of our children have been so indoctrinated in their own self esteem, that they have not learned to esteem others as equals. Maybe these thugs are so dazzled by their own brilliance that they only see others as idiots, in need of being pushed around.

Maybe we need to replace the self-esteem doctrine with loving our neighbors. Oops, that might be too “religious.” We can’t possibly tolerate that now, can we?
