A 37-year-old Oak Harbor man is facing a felony charge for repeatedly violating a restraining order barring him from contacting his ex-girlfriend, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged Robert Parker in Island County Superior Court Aug. 13 with the violation of a no-contact, protection or restraining order — third or subsequent violation.

According to a report by Oak Harbor Police Officer G. Tilleson, a resident of NW Crosby Avenue reported on Aug. 8 that Parker had spent the night with her. The woman had a protection order barring Parker from contacting her.

The woman said she and Parker got into a fight. She claimed that he “backhanded” her and choked her until she lost consciousness, Tilleson wrote. Parker was not charged, however, with committing any violence toward the woman.

In a interview, Parker denied assaulting or contacting the woman. He said she continually called him.

Parker has an extensive domestic violence history, as well as prior convictions for violations of protection orders, according to Tilleson’s report and other court documents.

If convicted of the charge, Parker would face between six months and a year in prison under the standard sentencing range.
