Ferry rates will increase Oct. 1

Ferry fares on all routes will go up starting Thursday, Oct. 1. Vehicle and driver fares will increase 2.5 percent. Passenger fares will increase 1 percent. Combined, these fares are the first of two increases coming in the next 12 months. The next fare hike is planned for May 2016.

Both were set to help the ferry system meet its operating costs and are expected to generate $357 million between July 1, 2015, and June 30, 2017, as required in the 2015-17 state transportation budget, according to the Washington State Transportation Commission.

The single fare vehicle and driver peak season surcharge will end Oct. 1. Multi-ride passes are not affected by the peak season surcharge.

Regular fare for a walk-on or vehicle passenger will be $4.85 on the Clinton/Mukilteo route, while a standard vehicle and driver will pay $8.50.
