A residential fire near Coupeville resulted in only minor damages despite aggressive winds Sunday evening.
North Whidbey Fire and Rescue responded to a call on Three Ranch Lane around 9 p.m. A small fire had occurred under the floor on the second story. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The homeowners had mostly extinguished the blaze with water and wet towels by the time firefighters arrived. Responders assisted with “salvage and overhaul using small tools and a chainsaw,” said fire Captain Chris Geiger.
The damage was all interior and came in at around $3,000, though Geiger said because of the weather conditions, the damage could have been much worse.
“The wind was blowing extremely hard, about 25-30 miles per hour out of the west,” he said. “Had the fire been actively burning or vented to the outside of the house, the conditions and outcome would most likely have been different.”
