A food fight at Captain Whidbey? (News-Times editorial, Sept. 14). It’s certainly not our intention.

The League of Women Voters of Whidbey Island has sponsored a “State of Our County” dinner with our county commissioners for several years now.  It has always been a unique opportunity for our league members and members of the community to hear directly from the commissioners and have our questions answered.

The league is a non-partisan organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government. Providing a civil, respectful setting in which government officials and citizens may interact is our goal.

This is our first year to have the dinner at the Captain Whidbey Inn. We quickly reached the limit for reservations for this event. There is, indeed, a great deal of interest in hearing from the commissioners this year. Due to lack of space there will be no opportunity for “walk-ins,” you must have a confirmed reservation to attend.

Readers may be interested to know that the league also sponsors a brunch with our state legislators in January and a dinner with the mayors of Oak Harbor, Coupeville and Langley in May. The public is invited. Please watch the papers and our FaceBook page as those months draw near.
