A 33-year-old Oak Harbor man who was a coach for a soccer club is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl from the team three years ago, court documents state.

Prosecutors charged Jeovanni Camacho, Jr., in Island County Court April 9 with three counts of rape of a child in the third degree. Under the definition of the charge, he’s accused of having sex with a juvenile who is at least 14 but less than 16 years old when he’s at least 48 months older.

Camacho pleaded not guilty April 20.

Susan Quandt, a former detective with the Island County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the case last year. The alleged victim said that she and Camacho had sexual intercourse numerous times from March 2006 until May 2007, Quandt wrote.

Camacho sometimes would sneak into the girl’s basement bedroom at night, unbeknownst to her parents, the report indicates.

In September of 2006, the girl’s parents and therapist attempted to stop the contact between her and Camacho, but he bought her a cell phone to stay in touch. He continued to sneak into her bedroom, court documents state.

Quant’s report states that the alleged victim was initially reluctant to talk to police about the abuse, but she realized the inappropriateness of Camacho’s behavior after going through treatment.

If convicted of the charges, Camacho could face from three years and ten months to five years in prison under the standard sentencing range.

Camacho’s attorney, Darrin Hall of Coupeville, had no comment about the case.
