Friday Harbor extended the Coupeville baseball team’s winless streak to 10 games with a 10-5 non-league win over the Wolves at Robert Sherman Field Friday, April 13.
The Wolves came back from a four-run deficit to even the score, but the Wolverines racked up six runs over the final three innings to pull away.
Friday Harbor touched Coupeville starter Korbin Korzan for a run in the first and then added three in the third.
The Wolves answered those three runs in their half of the inning. Wade Schaef led off with a single and Jake Tumblin doubled.
After two outs and a walk to Korzan, Drew Chan laced a single scoring Schaef and Tumblin. While trying to advance to third on the play, Korzan was caught in a rundown but escaped and scored on a throwing error.
In the bottom of the fourth, The Wolves tied it at 4-4 when Kurtis Smith led off with a single, advanced to second on a balk, stole third base and was singled home by Tumblin.
From there the Coupeville offense couldn’t keep pace with the Wolverines who scored three in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.
The Wolves got one back in the seventh when Tumblin walked, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch.
Tumblin finished 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and three stolen bases, and Chan was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Coupeville (0-7, 2-12) travels to Sultan (2-7, 5-7) Monday, April 16, and then hosts the Turks at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
