Oak Harbor’s skyline is changing daily as the new high school stadium project moves along at a remarkable clip.
The steel for the grandstands has been on site and the bottom girders are being installed. The major columns were scheduled to be standing by the end of last week.
“It’s dramatic every time you drive by,” said Vicki Harring, Oak Harbor School Board member, at last Tuesday’s meeting.
Mitch Romero, project manager with Heery International, said the crews were putting the final grade on the track. The field turf and track will be the final two pieces of the project. In the meantime, anyone passing by on Second Avenue will be able to visually track the grandstand’s progress.
“There will be dramatic changes in the next three weeks,” Romero said Thursday.
The entire project will cost $9.2 million, approximately $1 million of which is attributable to frontage and parking improvements included in the high school renovation undertaking. Romero said 50 percent of the budget has been expended, an auspicious percentage at this point of the project.
“Everything is on time and well within budget right now,” he said.
