Grateful to have such a caring local market | Letter

Editor,

In early June, I had a stroke, not the worst anyone could have, and for that I am grateful. My friends, family and amazing community came to my rescue.

Often we forget those who are acquaintances, but just the same, step up to the plate to offer help and support. Often, these folks are not recognized.

This a letter of thanks to three wonderful employees at the Red Apple in Coupeville who “walk the talk” of the meaning of “community.”

We’ve lived here for 14 years, and my husband, Allen, my dogs and kitties have been the recipients of much compassion, support and love from friends, acquaintances, and, of course, the amazing Hearts and Hammers.

But where, other than Whidbey Island, can you go to a local market and have employees come up to you with hugs, well wishes and with offers to bring groceries to your home, on their time?

Thank you, Colleen, Melissa and Dee, for the hugs, concerns and sincere offers of help.

I was overwhelmed with all the boundless help I received from my wonderful family and friends; however, one never expects offers from those who may see you once a week.

I hope I may include them now in my group of beloved friends.

Are West House

Coupeville
