Harbor Haven Crisis Nursery and Respite Childcare is throwing a birthday party. Then nursery wants all interested people to learn about the nursery at an open house Thursday, May 30 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Church of the Nazarene, 1100 W. Whidbey Ave., in Oak Harbor.
The anniversary celebration — “Come Play With Us” — will feature activities for children including face painting, Play Dough creations, and butterfly art. There will be food and fun for all ages. Information will also be available for parents from local agencies including Big Brother/Big Sister, Head Start, Success by Six, Toddler Learning Center, and Families That Work. Donors and supporters of Harbor Haven will be thanked including Kathy & Bill Massey of Island Construction, Wells Fargo Foundation, Island Thrift, Wal-Mart, Church of the Nazarene, Soroptimist International of Oak Harbor, Coupeville Lions Club, Krieg Construction, Target Stores, Pacific Northwest Bank, Oak Harbor United Methodist and Randy Williams of Penn Cove Architects.
Harbor Haven is funded by Child Abuse Prevention Foundation, operated by Service Alternatives, and located at the Church of the Nazarene. It is overseen by a steering committee. Major funding comes from a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, but the crisis nursery would not survive without local support.
Services include free temporary, emergency childcare. Harbor Haven is a way for the community to provide support to families in North Whidbey to help keep the families healthy and their children safe.
