Nobody was injured as the result of a brush fire that scorched a field between Oak Harbor and Goldie roads Wednesday afternoon.
North Whidbey Fire and Rescue Chief Marv Koorn said approximately seven acres of land and between 12 and 15 large, circular hay bales were burned.
Koorn said that a farmer was baling hay on the field when he turned around and noticed the fire. He reported it at approximately 3 p.m. Firefighters from North Whidbey Fire and Rescue and Oak Harbor Fire Department responded to the blaze.
Koorn said that the fire was probably ignited by the baler the farmer was using. Firefighters were on scene for approximately six hours making sure the fire remained extinguished.
North Whidbey Fire and Rescue firefighters had to respond from Oak Harbor Road and drove through a field near a herd of cows while firefighters from the Oak Harbor Fire Department responded from Goldie Road.
