Architects are working on the final designs for a new Coupeville High School.

They are presently seeking input for the finishing touches on the plans for the new school, which is funded by a bond voters approved in 2004.

Gary Goltz, school district construction manager, will meet with community groups to gain input about how they would use school facilities. Community groups could use the new facilities for annual events such as the garage sale and the trade show, for example.

“For a small amount of money, we could get future flexibility for future community use,” Goltz said during the Monday evening Coupeville School Board meeting.

He added the Coupeville Farmers Market approached school officials about using the high school grounds for future markets.

He said it could cost approximately $10,000 to install electricity and water hookups in the planned courtyard. Plans call for building the courtyard where the current high school is located.

Some board members worried about the costs associated with the additions.

“I’m concerned about spending too much money on this,” Don Sherman said.

Costs for the high school have escalated and school officials have already had to cut back the original plans.
