The Oak Harbor girls golf team topped Arlington 264-280 at the Whidbey Golf Club. Marisa Sligh earned her first medalist honors of the spring with a 45 (36 par) over nine holes. Hailey Beecher shot 50, Rosego Mooki 51, Terra Baird 52 and Grace Korsmo 66.
The Coupeville baseball team whipped Port Townsend 12-2 on a wet and windy Robert Sherman Field. The Wolves combined eight his with nine Redhawk errors to take the easy, five-inning win. Freshman Julian Welling made his first varsity start on the mound and gave up only two hits over four innings. Another freshman, Hunter Smith, pitched the final inning, facing only four batters.
C.J. Smith stroked a two-run single, and Welling, Clay Reilly, Hunter Smith and Aaron Trumbull each had run-scoring hits.
The Wolves’ game with Meridian Friday, April 24, has been cancelled.
The Oak Harbor track teams split at Arlington. Both the boys (107-38) and girls (96-53) defeated Marysville-Pilchuck, and both lost to the host Eagles (boys, 96-49; girls, 87-62).
Winners for the boys were Dejon Devroe (200, 23.66; 400, 51.01), John Rodeheffer (3,200, 9:20.9), Jared Gray (110 hurdles, 16.82), Mac Nuanez (high jump, 5-10), Diangelo McKinney (long jump, 19-11.5) and the 4×400 relay team (Nuanez, Gray, Josiah Welch, Devroe; 3:35.23).
Winners for the girls were Deja Bunch (400, 1:04.78), Jonalynn Horn (3,200, 11:45.79), Kaitlyn Chelberg (300 hurdles, 51.44), Samantha Hines (javelin, 109-11), Hayley Lundstrom (high jump, 4-10) and Claire Anderson (triple jump, 34-00.75).
The Coupeville boys track team finished sixth and the girls fifth in a seven-team meet at Sequim.
Sequim won the boys meet with 194 points; Coupeville had 34.5. Sequim also took the girls meet with 199 points; Coupeville scored 47.
Dalton Martin led the boys by placing second in the shot put (39-09) and third in the discus (110-02). Lathom Kelley grabbed third in the javelin (118-03).
Lauren Bayne paced the girls with the Wolves’ only win, taking the 3,200 (13:26.88). Marisa Etzell placed second in the 200 (29.47).
The Coupeville softball team downed visiting Port Townsend 8-2. Katrina McGranahan collected the pitching win and led the offense with three hits, including a double, and two RBI. Robin Cedillo, Lauren Rose and McKayla Bailey also recorded base hits.
Coupeville’s game at Meridian Friday, April 24 was cancelled.
The Coupeville soccer team “10-runned” Chimacum for the second time in eight days, this time winning 13-3 at home. Details were not reported.
