A driver suffered bruises after driving her car into a ditch Wednesday afternoon, apparently to avoid a collision.

The driver, Jessica Bright, said that while driving west bound on State Highway 20, a car in the other lane swerved into her lane. Bright said she turned to avoid the oncoming car and ended up in a ditch on the side of the road, near the Race Road intersection.

“I went to move out of his way, and next thing I know, I’m in a ditch,” she said.

Bright was bruised on her leg and her arm, but was not transported to the hospital.

Her boyfriend, Seth Price, was driving in a car behind her as they made their way home to Freeland. Price said he thought the car might have been a dark gray Honda Integra, but said that he’s not very good at identifying cars.

Bright also said she thought it was an Integra.”It only barely passed that yellow at all right there, only when it was near her, and corrected itself,” Price said. “I don’t think it even knew what it was doing or even looked in the mirror.”

The driver of the other car didn’t stop.

State Trooper Dave Martin said that because there was no transfer of paint, the chances of finding the suspect car and driver are “slim to none.” If, on the off-chance they found the driver, a citation could be issued because an accident did result, Martin said.

But there would be no proof to base charges on since there was no car-to-car collision.

Bright’s car, a 2001 model she’s owned for less than a year, was totaled in the accident, according to Martin. A boulder in the path the car took is presumed to be the cause of the extensive damage to the A-frame.

The car was towed from the scene by Simmons Garage and Towing.

Price said that they believe Bright’s insurance should cover the accident.
