The Island County Historical Society was presented an Award of Publication Excellence for its 30-minute video documentary, “Sunnyside Cemetery — Where Central Whidbey Sleeps,” at the annual Washington Museum Association Conference in Port Townsend.
The conference, hosted each year by a different museum, statewide, was held at Fort Worden Conference Center June 18-20.
The video was released last December and nominated for the award for projects completed in the 2013 calendar year.
The video features interviews with local historians and pioneer descendants Roger Sherman, Al Sherman, Dale Sherman and Joanne Engle Brown.
Historian Theresa Trebon adds commentary, and Diana Peterson portrays Rebecca Ebey, voiced by storyteller Jill Johnson, based on Rebecca’s own journals.
Others provide voices to the writings and photos of early settlers, and original music makes the soundtrack come to life.
Copies of the video may be purchased at the Island County Museum or ordered online at www.islandhistory.org for $23.90, including sales tax.
