Responders from North Whidbey Fire and Rescue, WhidbeyHealth and Washington State Parks rescued a woman who was thrown from her horse in Deception Pass State Park late Thursday morning.
North Whidbey Fire and Rescue responded to the call at 11:24 a.m. May 19. Fire Chief Chris Swiger said the horse bucked off the woman riding it on a trail near Ducken Road. The reason the horse bucked is unknown.
She had fallen about two miles away from the trailhead and parking lot. Responders had to cut up a tree that had fallen on the trail to get the necessary vehicles to the scene.
The woman was conscious and speaking when responders arrived, Swiger said, though she was still transported to the hospital from the scene with potential injuries.
Her friends with whom she had been riding managed to calm the horse and lead it back to the trailer.
The rescue operation took around an hour.
